From their ceremony

It was important to the bride and groom that I incorporated specific religious readings into their ceremony. Here is an excerpt from their ceremony…

Genesis – And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she is taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. In the book of Ruth it states in part, Where you go I shall go, and where you stay I shall stay. Your people shall be my people and your God shall be my God, Proverbs states a man who has found a wife has found a good thing and also that a virtuous woman is more valuable than rubies.

I like to ask my bride and groom to tell me what they admire most about the person they have standing in front of them and why they want to get married. Joshua stated, Because I wanted my rib, and through prayer , God blessed me with it. My Ruth, my Proverbs 31 Woman of God……. and JaVon stated…..He treats me like a queen and my daughter like a princess, He not only loves me but (also)loves my daughter, I love that he fears God, and we can grow together.

Love happens for many reasons. Sometimes, it comes about in an unexpected yet coordinated effort. Some think that love should find you. But I think it’s OK to seek love out. I believe love is found in the small places. Like during a random conversation, or trips to Disney World or the Bahamas or sometimes more subtle actions, like while sharing a meal, lovingly prepared by the other…

Joshua and JaVon, may the kind of true love you feel today remind you to always keep the promises you are about to make here today.

  • Update-The couple is now expecting their first child together

Ceremony Style

The couple was African American and the bride wore her hair in a natural style. JaVon opted for a modern short style wedding dress with a bit of Mod-Vint twist in the birdcage veil. The ceremony was semi formal and although was religious it was also about family. The couple each had a daughter from prior relationships and they were the perfect little flower girls.

Here are a few more pictures my husband and  I took of the couple:

The bride had a bit of a walk in those 5 in heels. Luckily she could lean on dad.

Maid of Honor was pregnant so it was important not to have the ceremony drag on.
