White Sapphires, the diamond Alternative

 

White Sapphires are a Beautiful alternative to Diamonds 

  While out running errands I decided I would like a nice ring for my right hand. I wanted something unusual and possibly with diamonds but I was not prepared to spend thousands or even several hundreds on a ring. So I stopped by a local jewelry store but found nothing to my liking there. I came home and did some internet searching. I came across some nice silver, white gold, and platinum jewelry but instead of diamonds, they had sapphires. Sapphires are quickly gaining popularity with brides and grooms alike.  Hmm, I said to myself. Let's take a closer look . I was surprised to see that there was a nice variation of quality, colors  and styles available and they looked pretty amazing. Most of us have heard the ancient stories about the origins and properties of the Sapphire:

• Some say that the tablets containing the Ten Commandments were made of sapphire, so strong that a hammer swung against them would be smashed to pieces.
• Legend has it that the first person to wear a sapphire was Prometheus, the rival of Zeus, who took the gemstone from Cacaus, where he also stole fire from heaven for man.
• The ancient Persians believed that the earth rested on a giant sapphire and its reflection colored the sky.
• Many other cultures have believed that sapphires imparted healing and calming properties.
• The azure light of Sapphire's stone resembles that celestial throne, A symbol of each simple heart that grasps in hope the better part, Whose life each holy deed combines, and in the light of virtue shines. -Marbodus, 12th Century AD
• Sapphire is mentioned in the Bible as being one of the twelve "stones of fire" (Ezekiel 28:13–16) that were given to Moses and set in the breastplate of Aaron (Exodus 28:15–30). Sapphire is also one of the twelve gemstones set in the foundations of the city walls of Jerusalem (Revelations 21:19) and associated with the Apostle St. Paul.
• For hundreds of years blue sapphires were the popular choice for engagement and wedding rings.
• Sapphires have been worn by royalty for ages as a symbol of good fortune, virtue, wisdom and holiness. Princess Diana and Princess Anne both received sapphire engagement rings and the British Crown Jewels are full of large blue sapphires, the symbol of pure and wise rulers.
• This is a Burmese Legend...Eons ago Tsun-Kyan-Kse, a golden haired goddess with sapphire blue eyes, presided lovingly over the temple of Lao-Tsun. Everyday, the temple's chief monk Mun-Ha, meditated before the golden goddess accompanied by his devoted companion, a green-eyed cat named Sinh. One day the temple was besieged by a group of terrible outlaws. When they threw Mun-Ha to the floor, Sinh leapt fiercely at the bandits, jumping up on his master's chest to protect him. The wrong doers fled screaming in fear, never to return and in gratitude for his courage, the golden goddess awarded Sinh with her sapphire blue eyes. To this day, Sinh's ancestors guard over the temple. The temple still stands and is populated by Siamese cats with striking blue eyes (typically this breed has green eyes).

Sapphire is the birthstone of September. Since sapphire symbolizes sincerity and faithfulness, it is an excellent choice for an engagement ring. It is also the traditional wedding anniversary gift for a couple's 5th and 45th year. Depending on what you are looking for, the prices can be very reasonable to just as pricey as any other quality gem. Take a look at this video below to see what I mean.
