Hurricane season has begun

It's July and we have officially begun hurricane season in Florida.

This year even though weddings are more plentiful I have been forced to take fewer weddings due to illness, the death of my mother, and the declining health of my mother-in-law for whom I provide constant care.

What does this mean for all those couples planning July weddings in Florida?

I will give you a few tips to consider.

Check the weather updates constantly.

  • Book a vendor with indoor and outdoor options.
  • No one likes to get rained on. This includes your vendors and their very expensive equipment, your guests with their brand new or possibly uncomfortable outfits, and getting a change of date or refunds may be harder than you think.
  • Hurricane season is officially from June 1st through November 30th.
  • There will be daily rains and Florida's flowers and fauna will be green and healthy from the daily rains.
  • Flooding and loss of electricity will be common.
  • Dates not predicted to rain will fill up very fast.
  • On weekdays rain usually starts around 5pm but there are days when it starts around 11am and done by early afternoon. Weekends can sometimes be intermittent all throughout the day.
  • Consider taking your wedding day pictures earlier. Talk with your photographer about how best to get the most sunshine in your wedding day pictures.
  • Consider having a smaller wedding. It's easier to reset.
  • Non-rainy days tend to be extremely hot and muggy. Consider this when choosing your wedding day attire, your makeup, and your hairstyle.
